Stacy Klein is Founder and Artistic Director of Double Edge Theatre. Under her leadership, Double Edge has grown for nearly 30 years into one of the foremost laboratory theatres in the U.S. The six play adaptations she has directed, and the thirteen original performances she has conceived, created, and directed, have earned her international recognition for daring and innovation. Likewise, her work in creating the 'living culture' of Double Edge's Farm Center has been groundbreaking. Stacy Klein founded Double Edge in 1982 at Tufts University. The company applied rigorous physical training and the principle of an actor’s autonomy to create work in an ensemble, laboratory setting. Her diverse performance work includes the Women’s Cycle, the Song Trilogy, and the Garden of Intimacy and Desire, which was presented as a three-performance cycle in a single night in spring and fall 2009. In 2002, she created the Summer Spectacle series at Double Edge, annual indoor/outdoor traveling performances that take place throughout the grounds of the Farm, with stories from novels and legend. These draw local artists and craftspeople to collaborate, and introduce theatergoers of all ages to Double Edge’s blend of imagery, action, and story. The most recent of these, The Arabian Nights, was inspired by the illustrations of Marc Chagall, and marks the beginning of a new stage in Double Edge’s work, The Chagall Cycle, a five-performance cycle involving artists from five countries, planned for 2010-2015. Organizing and producing extra-theatrical events has also been central in Klein's work, beginning with the 1980-81 International Womyn's Theatre Festivals in Boston. With the decision in 1994 to move the theatre to the Farm, creating an international center for performance and exchange, she has created even more opportunities for such projects, among them the US / Latin American Spiral Mirror Project (1996-2001), the summer Ex-CHANGE programs (2002-4) and, with Gardzienice Theatre, the International Consortium for Theatre Practices (1999–2001). The ongoing Conversations series, convened with Philip Arnoult, Director of the Center for International Theatre Development, brings renowned artists, writers and thinkers to the Farm Center for wide-ranging discussions, broadcast live over the internet. Klein’s methodology has been profiled in American Theater, Theater Heute, TheatreForum, the New York Times, and TDR, among many others, and she has written for Theater Topics and The Open Page. She was mentored by Rena Mirecka, lead actress of Jerzy Grotowski's Teatr Laboratorium, and by directors Jacques Chwat and Maxine Klein. She received the 2006 OTTO award for Political Theater, the MCC Artist Award for excellence in theatre creation in 1999, an InRoads grant for US / South American artist exchange in 1998, and was a Mentor in the New Generations Mentorship Program. She holds a PhD from Tufts University (Theatre History and Criticism); an MA from Goddard College (Political Theatre Education); and a BFA from Boston University (Directing).

Carlos Uriona (Master Actor and Producing Director) has worked with the company since 1996, and leads the Ensemble with Matthew Glassman. He is a co-creator of the theatre's most recent cycle of work, the Garden of Intimacy and Desire, and has created leading roles in all four performances of that cycle, including Maarten Soetendrop in the Disappearance, the Father in Republic of Dreams, and Don Quixote in the UnPOSSESSED. His Quixote was hailed as "inspired" by the New York Times, and the piece was revived for performances in June 2008 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In 2002, Uriona co-founded Double Edge's annual summer series of Indoor/Outdoor Traveling Spectacle performances, which have become a regional phenomenon, selling out weeks ahead of time and bringing thousands of visitors to the theatre's Farm Center in Ashfield, MA. Closely connected to this work is Uriona's role as the leader of Double Edge's grassroots campaigns and audience development initiatives. For this he has drawn from his previous work in Argentina, particularly the PLAZA performance project, which brought together thousands of young participants and spectators in squares throughout Buenos Aires. Uriona has received the Arts International Inroads Grant for US / South American artist exchange, and was a co-recipient of the Doris Duke/Andrew Mellon/TCG New Generations Mentorship Award. Before coming to Double Edge, Uriona founded and was a twenty-year member of the award-winning puppet theatre Diablomundo, named one of the "Top Ten Most Important Argentine Theatres of the 20th Century¨ by the Association of Argentinean Critics. He organized numerous international tours with Diablomundo, including appearances at the Henson International Festival of Puppet Theatre in New York in 1992, and received the Lila Wallace APAP award.

Matthew Glassman (Lead Actor, Co-Director) has worked with Double Edge since 2000. He has co-created the last three performances in Double Edge's Garden of Intimacy and Desire cycle in leading acting roles. Most recently, he has created the role of Yosee Strigler in the Disappearance. In Republic of Dreams, he created the role of Joseph/Bruno and portrayed the largely autobiographical character from Bruno Schulz's writings "with a stunning vulnerability¨ (Boston Metro). He also created the role of Sancho Panza in the UnPOSSESSED. Glassman has been instrumental in the success of the theatre's Summer Spectacle performances, as a co-creator and leading actor, most recently as the King in The Arabian Nights (2009). As leader of the theatre’s year-round training programs, Glassman has grown the programs in scope and depth, with enrollment more than tripling over the past five years. He has also co-directed of the training residencies/performances at Brandeis University and Yale University's School of Drama. His work as a playwright, Joby's Music, was showcased at Hartford's New Plays Festival and won First Prize in Playwriting at Trinity College. Jeremy Louise Eaton (Actor / Program Director) has worked with Double Edge since 2004, creating and performing roles in three company and five summer spectacle performances including Cristabelle / Jessica in the Disappearance, and Sheherezade in The Arabian Nights. The Greenfield Recorder referred to Eaton’s performance of Sheherezade as “admirable,” while The Ashfield News added that it was “cleverly played.” Eaton manages the company's student outreach and development initiatives and press listings, and is the administrative supervisor of the company. She leads training for the theatre's student and university training programs, including the company's 2007 performance residency at Brandeis University. She graduated from Guilford College with a BS in Criminal Justice and a BA in Theatre, and served in Greensboro, N.C. as a grassroots organizer for the first Truth and Reconciliation Commission in the US. She represented Double Edge for the US Artists Initiative at the 2009 Year of Grotowski in Wroclaw, Poland in June 2009.

He created the role of Detective Demotte in the Disappearance, performs the role of Rudolf in Republic of Dreams, and has appeared in four Summer Spectacle performances including The Three Musketeers. The Greenfield Recorder refered to Bright’s performance of Aladdin in The Arabian Nights as “dashing.” Bright manages the theatre’s facilities and grounds, production/ tech, as well as company calendars and scheduling. He leads training for the company’s student training programs, including the 2007 performance residency at Brandeis University. He holds an honors degree in Theatre from Hull University, where he was an assistant director and actor in a national award-winning original performance "Unlucky for Some" (2004). In England, he worked with the National Youth Theatre, Theatre Training Initiative, and Iraeli artist Yoram Monzensan among other individual artists and companies.

Hayley Brown (Actor / Program Associate) has worked with Double Edge since 2003, creating and performing roles in three company and seven summer spectacle performances including Madame Petra / The Barber in the UnPOSSESSED, and Guinivere in The Magician of Avalon. The Greenfield Recorder wrote that 2009’s spectacle The Arabian Nights was “well supported by the athleticism and charm of Hayley Brown.” For the Boston premiere of Republic of Dreams, The Harvard Crimson wrote, "The vocal performance of Hayley Brown as Bianca, Schulz's love interest, is especially outstanding.” Burlington, VT’s nth Word echoed this sentiment, writing, “Hayley Brown’s Bianca, Schulz’s love interest, imparts a beautifully aloof, but no less deadly, vocal performance.” Brown manages the company’s box office, grants administration, website and development databases, leads training for the company's student programs, and co-leads vocal training for the ensemble. Prior to Double Edge she was a competitive gymnast for 11 years and participated in the All Western District Music Festival Choir from 1995-99.
