The Greening Initiative

Double Edge Theatre’s Greening Project is a four-part energy plan designed to significantly reduce the theatre’s environmental footprint using a variety of energy conservation solutions. With this project, Double Edge has the chance to be in the forefront of the growth of eco-conscious industry in the state and serve as a model in its community for a shift to green energy.

Planned greening solutions include:

  • Fiberglass insulation in all heated buildings
  • A large-scale utility interface photovoltaic system providing solar-powered electrical energy
  • A wood-burning stove in the Pavilion Building to replace the oil-powered furnace currently in use
  • A solar hot water system at the Guest House
  • A system of water conservation solutions
  • A system for waste reduction.

Project Impact

The energy conservation strategies of the Greening Plan will result in a minimum of a 50% decrease of the overall energy usage of the theatre.

Costs

This project is made possible through a matching grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council Cultural Facilities Fund and other generous donors.
