Fall/Spring Program for Interns and Apprentices
Double Edge
Theatre's program for interns and apprentices accepts up to sixteen students
a year who wish to explore and develop their own artistic identity and interests
while simultaneously learning about the inner workings of an ensemble
theatre. Interns follow a schedule of led and individual training sessions and one-on-one
meetings with ensemble members, and are provided housing, workspace, access to the
theatres facilities including archives, training/ performance spaces,
scene shop, and sewing room, and admission to rehearsals
and performances. Interns are acommodated at a newly purchsed 10-room historic town house in Ashfield center, less than a mile from the Farm. Internship sessions begin in September
and February and run for three months.
The
Training
As an intern one is fully immersed in the life of the theatre. During
an internship with Double Edge the intern will be exposed to training
in physical theatre, music, object work, and etude creation through theatre's
signature work creation process. Internships include a minimum of five
training sessions per week, creation of individual and directed
etudes, and technical work on Double Edge's current performance.
Students
are encouraged to contact their schools about being credited for
a semester of study.
Work
on the Farm
The
internship experience is a holistic one, and students will be exposed
to all aspects of running the theatre. Double Edge does not have
a separate administrative and artistic staff, an many companies
do. Interns work alongside the members of the ensembble for approximately 10-20 hours per
week, which may include
office assistance/ administration, community outreach, housekeeping,
tech/design assistance, and farm/grounds maintenance.
Tuition
Tuition for the three month internship is $2,750. This includes
training, housing, local transportation and use of Double Edge Theatre's
facilities and work spaces. Advanced internships, which are for
3 months following the internship, are $550 per month and are by
invitation only, as are other long term training options. Tuition payments are non-refundable.
