Internships at Double Edge Theatre

Double Edge Theatre offers an internship program, accepting a limited amount of students each year who wish to explore and develop their own artistic identity/interests while simultaneously learning about the inner workings of an ensemble theatre. Interns follow a schedule of supervised training and one on one artist studies, and are provided housing, workspace, access to the theatres facilities including archives, training/ performance spaces, scene shop, sewing room, and kitchen, and admission to rehearsals and performances, all on the setting of 105 acres of field, forest, trails, and swimming pond.  Internship sessions begin in September and February and run for three months.

The Training

As an intern one is fully immersed in the life of the theatre. During an internship with Double Edge the intern will be exposed to training in physical theatre, music, object work, etudes, and the theatre's signature work creation process. Internship includes a minimum of three intensive training sessions per week, creation of an individual and directed etudes, and work on Double Edge's current performance.

Work on the Farm

The internship experience is a holistic one, and students will be exposed to all sides of running the theatre. Double Edge ensemble members and interns also have the roles of what is normally a separate administrative and office staff. Interns will be required to work 20 hours per week in all of the capacities that the regular artists do, which may include office assistance/ administration, community outreach, housekeeping, tech/ design assistance, cooking, and farm/ grounds maintenance.

The Options

Students are encouraged to contact their schools about being credited for a semester of study.   Internships are a minimum of three months, with sessions starting in February and September. Spaces are limited, so early applications are encouraged.  The program is open to people interested in all aspects of the theatre.

Tuition
Tuition for the three month internship is $2,250. This includes training, housing, local transportation and use of Double Edge Theatre's facilities and work spaces. Advanced internships, which are for 4 months following the internship, are $500 per month and are by invitation only, as are other long term training options.
